NFDC's New disability Website
New Forest District Council has set up a new website that provides information for people with disabilities and their employers.
The site includes details about the Disability Discrimination Act 1995, which will come into force in October 2004, local and national disability organisations and a test that helps individuals find out if they are experiencing discrimination.
Businesses can also use the site as a guide to see if they are meeting the new legislation.
Waterside disabled group, Enable, tested the website and provided photographs.
"The website is a very useful tool for disabled people and their employers", said Cllr Maureen Holding, portfolio holder for health and social inclusion at NFDC. "The Disability Discrimination Act will have a dramatic impact on both disabled people and organisations that work with them.
"Its important people have access to the latest information and we welcome any comments and suggestions as to what disabled people would like to see on the site".
To view the website go to www.newforest.gov.uk/disability or click on the disability symbols on the councils web pages. To speak to someone about any disability issue please contact the equalities team on 023 8028 5560.

How 'THE LOCAL PLAN' will affect you!
Your attention is draw to the Inspectors report which is now on the NFDC planning web-site?
If you click on the above it will take you to the appropriate website.
Select Annex 1 from the right hand column.
Main pages of interest to Residents
Scroll to bottom of page 266 of the report (computer page 36) down to page268 (p38), then to the bottom of page 277 (p47) to page 280 (p50)
In particular I recommend you read Annex 1 which deals with objections to the Local Plan from those who wish to develop in the village or in the Fordingbridge - Ashford - Sandleheath Gap.
Most villagers will be pleased with his conclusions and I hope that they tie in with the Parish Councils recent decisions on Affordable Housing sites.
